Who this course is for

Syllabus

7 modules · 2 months

  1. Module 1. Formula foundations done properly

    • Absolute, relative and mixed references, and why reports break without them
    • IF, IFS, AND, OR and nested conditional logic
    • VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH, and when each is right
    • Text, date and time functions for cleaning real data
    • Error handling with IFERROR and diagnosing why a formula returns nothing
  2. Module 2. Working with real, messy data

    • Data validation and controlled input
    • Removing duplicates and reconciling near-matches
    • Text to columns, flash fill and pattern extraction
    • Conditional formatting that highlights exceptions rather than decorating
  3. Module 3. PivotTables and summarisation

    • Building and restructuring PivotTables
    • Calculated fields and grouping
    • Slicers, timelines and linked filters
    • GETPIVOTDATA and referencing pivot output safely
  4. Module 4. Power Query

    • The extract, transform, load idea in plain terms
    • Connecting to files, folders and databases
    • Cleaning steps that replay automatically on refresh
    • Merging and appending queries
    • Building a pipeline that turns a raw monthly export into a finished table
  5. Module 5. Dashboards

    • Choosing a chart that answers the question asked
    • Dashboard layout and visual hierarchy
    • Dynamic titles and interactive controls
    • Building a single-screen management dashboard
  6. Module 6. Automation with VBA

    • Recording a macro and then reading what it recorded
    • Variables, loops and conditionals in VBA
    • Buttons and simple user forms
    • Knowing when Power Query is the better answer than a macro
  7. Module 7. Excel with AI

    • Drafting and explaining formulas with an AI assistant
    • Checking AI-suggested logic against a known result
    • Where AI assistance is unreliable in spreadsheet work

Placement assistance

Every student gets placement assistance — that is what 100% placement assistance means. It is support for all, not a job for all. We do not promise a specific salary, a specific number of interviews, or placement at any named company, and you should be wary of anyone who does.

What is included

  • A place in the monthly placement drive, held every third Saturday
  • The readiness programme every second Saturday — mock interviews and preparation
  • CV review against the specific roles you are targeting
  • Portfolio review, so your project work is presented the way a reviewer will read it
  • Access to the vacancy pool employers send directly to the Samyak network
  • Guidance on which roles realistically fit your background and which do not
  • A place in the next drive, with coaching, if you are not selected in this one

What is not included

  • Any guarantee of a job, an interview, or a particular salary
  • Placement at a named or partner company
  • Applying to jobs on your behalf
  • Support before you have completed the course and its project work
  • Visa, relocation or overseas placement assistance

Why Excel is still the highest-return two months in this catalogue

It is not the most exciting course we teach. It is probably the most immediately useful.

Most Indian offices — accounts, operations, HR, sales — run on spreadsheets, and the person who can turn a four-hour monthly report into a refresh button becomes visible very quickly. That visibility is often what leads to the analyst role, not a certificate.

The Power Query argument

If you take one thing from this course, take Power Query.

Most Excel users clean data by hand: delete columns, find and replace, split text, repeat next month. Power Query records those steps once and replays them on new data. A four-hour monthly routine becomes a refresh.

It is also the concept that transfers directly into Power BI, and the reason learners who do Excel properly find Power BI straightforward later.

On AI and spreadsheets

We are not going to pretend AI assistants have not changed this subject. They write formulas well and they explain them well.

What they do not do is know your data. An AI-suggested formula that joins on a non-unique key returns a confident, wrong number, and nothing flags it. The skill worth paying for now is verification: knowing what one row represents, checking totals against a known figure, and recognising when a result is implausible. That is what the last module is about.

Questions

Advanced Excel — frequently asked questions

Is an Advanced Excel course still worth it when AI can write formulas?

More than before, but for a different reason. AI drafts formulas quickly and confidently, including wrong ones. The value has shifted from recalling syntax to knowing whether a result is right — understanding grain, join logic and what a number measures. This course teaches that, and includes a module on using AI assistants without being misled by them.

What is the difference between Advanced Excel and Power BI?

Excel is where most Indian offices hold and manipulate data day to day. Power BI is built for modelling and sharing interactive reports at larger scale. The concepts overlap heavily, and Power Query appears in both, so Excel first then Power BI is a natural sequence rather than a choice.

Do I need to know VBA to get an MIS job?

Usually not to get the job, but it often separates candidates once in it. Most MIS work is formulas, PivotTables and increasingly Power Query. VBA becomes valuable when you meet a monthly task nobody has automated. We cover enough for you to automate real work without pretending it makes you a developer.

How long does it take to become genuinely good at Excel?

Two months of structured practice covers everything in this syllabus. Fluency — reaching for the right tool without thinking — takes a few months of applying it to real work afterwards. The projects exist so you leave with that practice already started.
